Ocular morphometric measurements obtained using different types of optical biometry systems in patients with advanced cataract

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare biometry measurements in eyes of cataract patients using optical low-coherence interferometry biometer which incorporates Placido-based topography (Topcon Aladdin system) with those obtained with PCI (partial coherence interferometry) biometer (Zeiss IOL-Master)

Setting:

Department Of Ophthalmology Railway Hospital Katowice II School of Medicine with the Division of Dentistry in Zabrze, Medical University of Silesia, Katowice

Methods:

34 eyes with advanced cataract (BCVA less than 0.3) were examined using above listed systems. In all eyes we measured axial length (AL), corneal radius values with keratometry (K1,K2), and anterior chamber depth (ACD). All measurements were performed by the same examiner. The results were compared and analysed using Bland-Altman plots

Results:

Comparison of the ocular axial lengths, as well as of the keratometric and ACD measurements showed good correlation and agreement between the measurements obtained using both methods. In our patient�â�€�™s group Standard Deviation (SD) for Axial Length difference was 0.028 and for ACD differences was 0.15, respectively SD for K1 and K2 was 0.17 and 0.18

Conclusions:

The comparisons between IOL Master and the ALADDIN show a very good alignment for Axial Length for both groups of patients. There was also acceptable alignment for K1, K2 and ACD measurement. Both analyzed instruments show a good correlation and precision.
