Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the agreement, repeatability, and reproducibility of two non-invasive pachymeters.
Setting:
Unit of Optometry, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.
Methods:
The right eye of 40 healthy and phakic subjects were included in the study. Two clinical examiners were included in the study, and all measurements were taken with a Scheimpflug system and a non-contact tonometer that measures the central pachymetry. The measurements taken by the same examiner were used to assess the repeatability of each instrument, meanwhile the reproducibility was assessed from measurements taken by both examiners. Finally, the agreement between both systems was evaluated from the measurements taken by the same examiner.
Results:
The repeatability and reproducibility limits for the central corneal thickness measurements was smaller than 15 µm for both systems. Regarding the agreement results between both systems, there were statistical significant differences (p < 0.05), which mean difference was about 20 µm. Furthermore, the limit of agreement interval was about 30 µm, and the confident interval of each limit of agreement was about 8 µm.
Conclusions:
Both systems showed good repeatability and reproducibility outcomes to measure the corneal thickness. Nonetheless, clinical criteria are needed to judge whether these devices could be used interchangeable.
