Abstract Details

Purpose:

To determine the influence of corneal thickness in its Central zone before and after surgery LASIK indicators for tonometric intraocular pressure

Setting:

Private healthcare institution Medical and sanitary unit

Methods:

The study included 200 somatically healthy patients with myopia of different degrees from 18 to 45 years in the absence of other ophthalmological diseases. For statistical processing of the data took into account the thicknesses of the cornea in the Central optical zone as easily amenable to standardization parameter. A comparative study of the results of applanation (method Maklakova) and non-contact tonometry.

Results:

According to the results of tonometric measurements of intraocular pressure before and after intrastromal LASIK intervention regarding the correction of myopia significantly different in the direction of decrease due to thinning of the Central zone of the cornea. Therefore, LASIK can change the accuracy of IOP measurement with applanation tonometry at Maklakovo and non-contact tonometry.

Conclusions:

Indices corneal thickness is important to consider not only in refractive surgery but also in the pathology of IOP. Patient undergoing LASIK keratorefractive intervention, with incipient glaucoma, ceteris paribus will have understated indicators of tonometric IOP. It is fraught with the diagnosis of glaucoma in the later stages, when part of the visual acuity will be permanently lost. Therefore, these patients should be in a special risk group.
