Abstract Details
Purpose:
To report the outcomes of non-penetrating glaucoma surgery in a high volume single surgeon glaucoma practice
Setting:
Private Sub-specialty Clinic - Clarity Eye Institute, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Methods:
Retrospective chart review of patients who underwent isolated non-penetrating glaucoma surgery from 2009 to 2016 with at least 1 year of follow-up. The primary endpoints were postoperative IOP and number of medications at 1 year. Secondary endpoints included visual acuity, visual field changes, complications, postoperative interventions, the size of the trabeculo-descemet window and success at 5-years.
Results:
At the time of submission, a sample of 98 eyes had met the inclusion criteria to be included in the preliminary analysis. In this set, the IOP went from 29.49.9 mmHg preoperatively to 15.64.5 mmHg postoperatively at 1-year (p<0.001). The number of medications reduced from 3.51.0 to 0.3 1.0 (p<0.001) with 83.7% of patient being on no medications. Postoperatively, 68.4% required goniopuncture, 31.6% needling and 11.2% had iris blocking the trabeculo-descemet window requiring removal. No persistent hypotony was reported.
Conclusions:
Non-penetrating glaucoma surgery can significantly reduce IOP and number of medications postoperatively with minimal complications at 1 year.
