Abstract Details

Purpose:

Estimation of the influence of TE on corneal astigmatism axis in postoperative period.

Setting:

Saint-Petersburg Multifield Hospital â„– 2

Methods:

The investigation group consists of 61 patients (29 men and 32 women, 61 eyes) with average age of 68Â±7, 19 years after TE. Keratometry was done on TOPCON-8800 before the operation, in first 24 hours, in 30 days and in 3 months after the operation. All results were compared with pre-surgical results which helped to estimate the dynamic of changes of the corneal astigmatism axis.

Results:

The deflection of the corneal astigmatism axis for 30Ð¾ from original results took place in 34,4% of all cases in 3 months after operation. This investigation group consisted of those patients, who had with-the-rule corneal astigmatism 16,4%, against-the-rule 6,5% and in 11,3% cases it was oblique astigmatism. This tendency has no statistical proofs yet.

Conclusions:

Every third patient had the deflection of the corneal astigmatism axis for 30Ð¾ from original results even 3 months after operation. With-the-rule corneal astigmatism occurred in 16,4%, against-the-rule in 6,5% and oblique astigmatism in 11,3% of all cases. This tendency has no statistical proofs yet.
