Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the functional results of femtosecond laser-assisted cataract phacoemulsification with implantation of AcrySof ReSTOR IOL in monocular patients.
Setting:
Ufa Eye Research Institute, Russia.
Methods:
9 patients with monocular cataract aged 55-82 underwent surgery. The uncorrected visual acuity equaled 0.02-0.4.All patients underwent femtoassisted phacoemulsification with the implantation of pseudo-accommodative IOL AcrySof ReSTOR (Alcon, USA) with .0 D additional. The optical power of the IOL was calculated in emmetropic eye according to SRK/T formula.Femto laser stage was performed on a ZiemerFEMTO LDVZ8. Phacoemulsification was performed on StellarisPC Vision Enhancement system (Baush&Lomb,USA). The follow-up period was 6 months. The causes of loss of the paired eye were: phthisis bulbi, corneal leukoma, operated retinal detachment. Preoperative ophthalmological examination included visometry, tonometry, keratometry, refractometry, multiple biometrics, tomography of the retina
Results:
In the course of the surgery and follow-up no complications were observed. The diameter of capsulorhexis in all patients was 5 mm;its edge was even.Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) after the surgery was higher than 0.5 in 66.7% of cases, uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA)at a distance of 40 cm - 0.4 in 50.0% of cases; in 1 month after the surgery UDVA was above 0.7 in 88.9% of cases and UNVA 0.5 in 66.7% of cases. With further observation in 6 months UDVA and UNVA remained stable.Subjectively, patients noticed more comfortable distance and near vision and the lack of halo effect.
Conclusions:
1. Implantation of AcrySof ReSTOR IOL in monocular patients contributes to optimal vision correction at different distances.
2. Femtosecond laser phacoemulsification with mplantation of AcrySof ReSTOR IOL is a method of choice in monocular patients.
