Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze surgical outcomes and the safety of the femtosecond laser in cataract surgery, optimization of laser parameters to reduce procedure time and energy. Femtosecond laser is playing more and more significant role in cataract surgery nowadays. This laser allows performing three steps of cataract surgery: corneal incisions, capsulotomy, and lens fragmentation. Better quality of the incisions with reduced induced astigmatism, better reliability and reproducibility of the capsulotomy with better stability of the implanted lens and reduction of the use of ultrasounds that can negatively affect the cornea are proven advantages of this laser technique.

Setting:

Eye department NEMOS Sokolov Hospital, Czech Republic, Eye clinic Sokolov Czech republic.

Methods:

62 eyes in 31 patients undergoing femtosecond laser cataract surgery were included in this study. The Alcon/LenSx femtosecond laser was used for anterior capsulotomy, lens fragmentation and corneal incisions as well. Phacoemulsification was then performed with insertion of either SN60WF/INTOL, multifocal (Restor, PanOptix) or Toric Intraocular Lens. Different energy and time of procedure were used. Operations were always done by the same surgeon with the same equipment â€“ CenturionÂ® Vision System by Alcon

Results:

Left and right eyes were operated with different light energy. We have found the significant correlation in between density of cataract, energy and time of the procedure. Meaningful reduction of the time and energy has been identified in each case of cataract procedures.

Conclusions:

The reduction our new femto time in comparison with our standard femto time we proves safety, lowest complications like a suction lost, uncompleted capsulotomy, incisions position and affectivity of procedure. Femtosecond assisted cataract surgery is save and time reducing procedure that shows no evidence of any post-op complications.
