Abstract Details

Purpose:

This study evaluates refractive and keratometric and topographic outcomes after the performance of ISAK with a Femtosecond laser in subjects with corneal astigmatism prior to intraocular lens implantation.

Setting:

Optical Express, Glasgow

Methods:

69 astigmatic eyes underwent Femtosecond assisted ISAK using the Julian Stevens nomogram. Change in corneal astigmatism, through comparison of pre-operative and post-operative autokeratometry; change in manifest subjective refraction, through comparison of pre-operative and post-operative subjective refraction measurements, and uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity were assessed 3 months after the surgery.

Results:

69 eyes of 35 patients with corneal astigmatism up to 2.50D underwent the 3 months post op evaluation. The mean age was 57 7yrs. Mean manifest refractive cylinder pre-operatively was -0.81D 0.66 while at 3 months post-operatively it was -0.57D 0.47

Conclusions:

The Intrastromal arcuate keratotomy performed with a femtosecond laser is an effective procedure in the correction of corneal astigmatism.
