Estimation of SMILE operation results using VisuMax femtosecond laser after keratoplasty

Abstract Details

Purpose:

Estimation of SMILE operation results after keratoplasty using VisuMax femtosecond laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec) in the eyes with myopia and myopic astigmatism.

Setting:

IRTC Eye Microsurgery Ekaterinburg Center, Ekaterinburg, Russia

Methods:

The study enrolled 5 eyes of 5 patients. In 2 cases automated anterior lamellar keratoplasty was performed for corneal opacities, in 2 for keratoconus and in 1 for corneal dystrophy. SMILE was performed in terms from 12 to 32 months (mean, 20 months). SMILE was performed in terms from 3 to 23 months after sutures removal (mean, 16 months).

Results:

UCVA before surgery was 0.15 �Â�± 0.08, at the first day after surgery 0.43 �Â�± 0.32 (p<0.05). Spherical equivalent (SE) before surgery was -3.8 �Â�± 1.99 D, at the first day after surgery �.23 �Â�± 0.73 D (p<0.05). BCVA before surgery was 0.7 �Â�± 0.23, at the first day after surgery 0.49 �Â�± 0.26 (p>0.05).

Conclusions:

Achieved results show that SMILE operation may be a choice method for myopia and myopic astigmatism correction after keratoplasty. Further follow-up of these patients is required.
