Abstract Details
Purpose:
To determine the beneficial properties of argon laser as adjunctive therapy in patients with severe corneal abscesses.
Setting:
Hospital Oftalmologico Santa Lucia. Buenos Aires. Argentina.
Methods:
Report of 4 cases and review of literature. The first 3 cases whose etiologies are Fusarium, Pseudomonas and Fusarium pseudomona coinfection, refractory to medical therapy and a case of beta hemolytic streptococcal keratitis who presented intolerance to topical treatment, all of whom were subjected to argon laser therapy .
Results:
Complete resolution of the infiltrate and areas of necrosis was observed after two weeks of laser treatment. On average track 8 / - 2 months after application, patients showed corneas tectonically stable and free of infection. One case experienced stromal thinning and required conjunctival flap.
Conclusions:
Argon laser phototherapy is useful as an adjunctive treatment for infectious keratitis refractory to medical treatment. More cases are needed to validate our results.
