Patients were evaluated at study initiation, at the end of treatment and 1 month after the end of the treatment. At each visit symptoms and signs graded according to the severity and tear break-up time (TBUT) and Schirmer test values were recorded.

Results:

At the end of treatment all patients demonstrated significant improvements in the ocular symptoms, signs, TBUT and Schirmerâ€™s test values from baseline. Between the groups, group 2 showed a significantly better and long-lasting improvement in terms of lid margin debris, meibomian gland (MG) expression, MG secretion scores and Schirmerâ€™s test values.(p= 0.0001, p=0.02, p=0.01, and p=0.001 respectively)
