Abstract Details

Purpose:

to evaluate stability of corneal crosslinking (CXL) treatment in patients with post-laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) corneal ectasia.

Setting:

10th City Hospital, Republican Opthalmological Center, Belarus, Minsk Belarusian Medical Academy of Post-Graduate Education

Methods:

Retrospective research enrolled patients with post-LASIK ectasia who were treated with CXL. Spherical and cylindrical refractions, corneal topography keratometry (K) values, uncorrected (UDVA) and corrected (CDVA) distance visual acuity were measured. Mean follow-up terms were 22 month (range 15 to 28 months).

Results:

Study included 18 eyes (11 patients), 5 female, 6 male with the mean age of 32.7 Â± 6 (SD) years (range 24 to 41). The UDVA and CDVA improved significantly from 0,35Â± 0,21 to 0,54 Â±0,25 Decimal, and from 0,74 Â± 0,11 to 0,94 Â± 0,07. No eye lost 1 or more Snellen lines of UDVA or CDVA. The maximum K value decreased from 47.0 Â± 3.5 (D) to 45,7 Â± 3,2 D and remained stable in 16 eyes. There was no significant difference in mean spherical refraction, but mean cylindrical refraction decreased significantly. No serious complications occurred.

Conclusions:

Corneal collagen crosslinking showed stability in patients with post-LASIK ectasia. Visual acuity, cylindrical refraction and K values improved significantly.
