Shape-changing hydrogel corneal inlay for the correction of presbyopia

Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate patients implanted with a Raindrop Near Vision Inlay (ReVision Optics, Inc., Lake Forest, CA) in my clinical practice. (131)
Setting:
Whitten Laser Eye Washington DC and Charlotte Hall MD.
Methods:
Ninteen (19) emmetropic presbyopes (MRSE -0.50 to �.00 D) were implanted with the Raindrop�Â�® Near Vision Inlay in the non-dominant eye under a femtosecond flap, centered over the light-constricted pupil. ETDRS visual acuities were collected at near (40 cm), intermediate (80 cm), and distance (6 m) at preop, 1D, 1W, and 1M postop. (332)
Results:
At 1 day (n=19), mean monocular near visual acuities (Snellen) were 20/28. By 1 week (n=16), mean UNVA was 20/28, and mean UDVA was 20/25. Binocularly, 100% of patients were 20/20 or better at distance. Twelve patients were out to 1M; monocularly all could see 20/40 or better at near, 20/50 or better at distance, and binocularly, all had 20/20 distance vision.
Conclusions:
In my practice, Raindrop Inlay shows improvement in near visual acuity without compromising binocular distance vision. Early outcomes supports this corneal inlay as a good tool for treating presbyopia in my practice. Longer term outcomes (6 months or later) will be reported during the congress. (296)
