Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the outcomes of DMEK surgeries performed at southend university hospital.
Setting:
Southend university hospital
Methods:
Retrospective chart review of 51 eyes performed at Southend university hospital. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraoperative and postoperative complication were recorded at 1,3,6 and 12 months.
Results:
Mean follow-up was 9.2 months. After exclusion of patients with co-morbidities, the percentage of patients achieving BCVA of 6/6 or better at 1,3,6 and 12 months was 17.2%, 51.7%, 39.5% and 48.8%, respectively. Postoperative graft dislocation occurred in 47.3% of the eyes. All of the dislocated grafts were successfully managed with air reinfection. None of the eyes suffered from rejection episodes.
Conclusions:
DMEK has a fast visual recovery , excellent visual outcomes and low rejection rates but with higher rebubbling rates.
