Abstract Details

Purpose:

To examine the effectiveness and safety of implantation the intrastromal of corneal segments on advanced technology at treatment of a keratoconus

Setting:

S.N. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Complex, Moscow

Methods:

This retrospective study included 50 patients for implantation the intrastromal of corneal segments on advanced technology at treatment of a keratoconus (FS-ICRS). Preoperative complete ophthalmic examination was done including uncorrected and best spectacle corrected visual acuity, ultrasonic pachymetry (Alcon), OCT RTVue-100 (Optovue, USA), Pentacam (Oculus, Germany). Grop 1: 25 patients (25 eyes) - used a standard of implantation ICRS. Grop 2: 25 patients (25 eyes) - used an advanced asymmetric of implantation ICRS of rather vertical section. Femtosecond assisted intracorneal ring segment implantation for keratoconus was done using the FS-200 fs laser system (Alcon, USA) and Femto-LDV Z 6 (Ziemer, Switzerland).

Results:

The procedure effectively improved the astigmatism, K readings, and the refractive error .The UDVA and CDVA are showing improvement in all cases with 0% of eyes lost any line. In the second group we had one case of a protrusion of a corneal segment.

Conclusions:

Thus, surgical technology femtosecond assisted of implantation of IÐ¡RS through asymmetric entrance cuts in the corneal tunnel allows to reduce substantially postoperative risk of such complication as a protrusion of a corneal segment
