Abstract Details
Purpose:
Reporting the outcome of 8 cases of herpetic corneal scars treated with femtosecond laser assisted anterior lamellar keratoplasty
Setting:
Dar El Oyoun Hospital, Cairo Egypt
Methods:
8 cases with previous history of herpetic keratitis and current corneal opacities not more than 70% of corneal thickness by OCT. All patients underwent FS-assisted same size Anterior Lamellar keratoplasty to replace 70% of the recipient corneal stroma. The donor and recipient cuts were done with the Femtosecond laser. 8 interrupted sutures were placed in all cases to secure the lamellar graft.
Results:
7 eyes showed significant improvement of BCVA from preoparative values . In these 7 eyes the range of BCVA 2 months after surgery was 0.5-0.7.Corneal OCT showed smooth interfaces in 7 eyes. One eye had no improvement in BCVA from preoperative values which was attributed to the rough interface evidenced with the OCT.
Conclusions:
FS-ALK provides a smooth and regular interface. It can be used in superficial corneal opacities with good results.
