Surgical management of subepithelial nodules in keratoconus

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To show the results of PTK in patients with apical subepithelial corneal opacity and intolerance to contact lenses

Setting:

Ophthalmic hospital of Rome And balestrazzi office -Rome

Methods:

From 2014 to 2016 4 eyes of 3 patients affected by Keratoconus ,subepithelial nodules of corneal apex , irregularities of corneal topography, reduction of visual acuity and intolerance to contact lenses, were submitted to PTK with mechanical removal of corneal fibrosis and masking fluid.

Results:

All patients achieved an improvement of visual acuity, of the regularity of the corneal surface and an improvement in comfort with contact lenses without any type of complications.

Conclusions:

PTK with mechanical removal of corneal fibrosis is a safe and effective procedure for the treatment of apical subepithelial corneal nodules in keratoconus.
