Abstract Details
Purpose:
We reported cases of recurrent corneal erosion (RCE) and persistent epithelial defect(PED)after keratoplasty which responded well to the regenerative agent application (Cacicol,OTR3,Paris,France)
Setting:
Birinci Eye Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey
Methods:
A three year old girl admitted to our clinic due to recurrent epithelial erosion on the left eye. Topical application of artificial tears and hypertonic solutions were unsuccessful. Corneal erosion reccured under bandage contact lens.
A 67-year-old men was performed penetrating keratoplasty for corneal scarring after infectious keratitis. Five months after the surgery he had total corneal epithelial defect on the same eye. No epithelization was observed with lubricants and bandage contact lenses.
Results:
Topical RGTA was administered at a dose of 1 drop every other day for the first 10 days and then it was continued for a drop in a week. Second patient was using additional treatment of systemic Valacyclovir. Both patients responded positively to the RGTA treatment.
Conclusions:
RGTA seems to be promoting corneal healing in the cases of post-keratoplasty RCE and PED
