Intense pulse light in dry eye challenging cases: long-term results

Abstract Details
Purpose:
To analyze long- term results with Intense Pulse Light (IPL) in cases of dry eye refractory to treatment.

Methods:
We analyzed 100 consecutive eyes of 50 patients. The age was 56.55 �Â�± 18.84 years-old; 21 were men and 29 were women. The follow-up was 18.22 �Â�± 9.45 months. To evaluate satisfaction, we performed a questionnaire before and after completing the IPL sessions. We described the procedure and the planning of IPL sessions.
Results:
Preoperative and postoperative Break Up Time test was 4.55 �Â�±1.88 seconds and 7.66 �Â�± 1.41 seconds respectively. Preoperative and postoperative best spectacle corrected visual acuity was 0.68 �Â�± 0.22 and 0.85 �Â�± 0.14 respectively. Also, we described results about questionnaire of satisfaction.
Conclusions:
IPL is a very helpful procedure to improve cases of dry eye refractory to treatment. It complements the enhacement of corneal surface.
