Abstract Details
Purpose:
To analyse the visual outcome and complications of single step micro-incision cataract surgery combined with transpupillary silicon oil removal in a tertiary care set up in India.
Setting:
Centre for Sight, New Delhi
Methods:
A total of 50 eyes were analysed retrospectively . Mean age was 64 years (53-76 years). Cataract surgery was done through 2.8 mm MICS followed by posterior capsulorhexis. Silicon oil was removed using bimanual irrigation and aspiration cannula following which hydrophobic foldable acrylic lens was implanted in the capsular bag. Results were analysed to see visual outcome, complications and duration of the procedure.
Results:
BCVA improved in 39 eyes ( 78 %) . There was no case of intraoperative vitreous hemorrhage. Retina remained attached in 48 eyes ( 96%). On table re-detachment was noted in 1 eye (0.02%), where silicon oil was reinjected. In one eye retina detached 4 days later. Mean duration of surgery was 17.2+7 mins.
Conclusions:
Single step micro-incision cataract surgery combined with transpupillary silicon oil removal is a fast, safe and effective method that can be performed in selected cases with stable retina.
