Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study long-term results of combined femto-assisted phacoemulsification and non-perforating deep sclerotomy with Xenoplast drainage implantation: the level of intraocular pressure (IOP), structural and functional parameters of the eye.

Setting:

Moscow, Eye Center â€œEast Sight Recoveryâ€,Ophthalmological department Moscow Medico-Dental University

Methods:

45 eyes of 42 patients with different stages of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) were studied. All patients underwent combined femto-assisted phacoemulsification and non-perforating deep sclerotomy with Xenoplast drainage implantation. Before operation; 1, 3, 6 months and 1,2,3,4 years after the surgery the following parameters were investigated: corneal-compensated intraocular pressure (IOPcc), Goldman IOP (IOPg), corneal hysteresis (CH) with ORA (Reichert) diagnostics equiment. Also computer perimetry and optic disc retinal tomography were performed.

Results:

Average IOPcc, IOPg before the surgery were 25.9Â±8.4 mm Hg, 25.7Â±7.7 mm Hg respectively. The number of medications being used were 2.8Â±0.5. The IOP level was normalized by 1 year after the surgery without hypotensive medications in 56.4% of all cases. 43.6 % needed to use 0.7Â±0.5 medications. By the end of 4 year IOP normalization without any medications was marked in 40.9% and in 58.1% of all cases 1.7Â±0.8 were used. 4 years after the surgery IOPcc average parameters were 18.9Â±4.8 mm Hg; IOPg 17.8Â±3.6 mm Hg.

Conclusions:

Combined femto-assisted phacoemulsification and non-perforating deep sclerotomy with Xenoplast drainage implantation can be considered the statistically effective method of IOP normalization and stabilization of glaucoma process with reducing medication load comparing the preop level
