Abstract Details

Purpose:

To develop the new technique of four-point fixation of IOL in the cases of capsular bag loss and study its effectiveness.

Setting:

Lviv national medical university, Lviv, Ukraine

Methods:

Four loops IOL was implanted. A needle with 10â€“0 polypropylene suture was introduced through the sclera at 8 o'clock and was passed through first and second loops. A 23-gauge needle was passed from the point at 4 o'clock. The straight needle was threaded into the lumen of the 23 G needle and 2 needles were removed together. Then straight needle was passed through the layers of the sclera and externalized at 2 o'clock. The above technique was repeated for the third and fourth loops and the needle was passed through the sclera to 8 o'clock. The sutures were tied.

Results:

The developed technique was used in 4 consecutive cases. No intra and postoperative complications were found. The IOLs of the four cases were stable with proper centration. The postoperative best-corrected visual acuity ranged from 20/40 to 20/20.

Conclusions:

The technique of four-point fixation of posterior chamber IOL is effective in cases of capsular bag loss. This technique provides good IOL fixation without creating corneal wound or scleral flap.
