Abstract Details
Purpose:
to perform retrospective analysis of the accuracy of the intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation after anterior radial keratotomy (RK).
Setting:
Ufa Eye Research Institute, Russia
Methods:
The study included 21 patients (40 eyes) aged from 42 to 63 years (mean age 55.3 ± 5.1 years) with age-related cataract, who underwented RK an average of 21.8 ± 1.4 years ago. The refractive power of the cornea was performed by topographer «TMS-4» (Tomey, Japan). The axial length of the eye was performed by ultrasound biometry «OcuScan» (Alcon, USA). IOL power calculation performed by the formulas SRK II, Holladay II, SRK T, Hoffer Q. According to the optical power of the IOL implanted actually define the relevant formula of the calculated refraction and its deviation from the refraction achieved.
Results:
The difference between the calculated and refraction achieved during the computation formula SRK II averaged 3.68 ± 0.65 D, according to the formula Holladay II – 2.55 ± 0.84 D, SRK T – 1.89 ± 0.69 D, the formula Hoffer Q – 1.37 ± 0.38 D.
Conclusions:
Given the homogeneity of the material and sufficient accuracy of measurements in the IOL power calculation in post-RK eyes preferably application of Hoffer Q formula with the addition of the amendment of 2.0 to 3.0 D for emmetropic or low myopic refraction is recommended.
