Abstract Details
Purpose:
To describe the technique of combined Phacoemulsification and (ECP) under topical anesthesia with standing surgeon and patient in semirecumbent position.
Setting:
This case reported at ophthalmology department in King Abdullah Medical City, Makkah, Saudi Arabia
Methods:
This case report of Combined phacoemulsification, Intraocular lens (IOL) implantation and Endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation (ECP) under topical anesthesia with 0.4% oxybuprocaine hydrochloride in 79 years old obese male, smoker with diabetes , hypertension and ischemic heart disease can not lie flat due to shortness of breath. Procedure was done while the patient in semirecumbent position with surgeon in standing position to the right side of patient head. The footplates of Phaco machine and microscope were to right and left side of the surgeon, respectively, with using one footplate at a time.
Results:
Intraoperative and postoperative period were uneventful. Good visual outcome and controlled intraocular pressure after surgery .
Conclusions:
Combined phacoemulsification, IOL implantation and ECP under topical anesthesia is safe and effective for patient can not lie flat and at higher risk for general anesthesia .
