Abstract Details

Purpose:

To demonstrate managing paediatric rubella cataract of various density in a 4 year old rubella positive child

Setting:

This procedure was done in Mahathma Eye Hospital, Tennur, Trichy

Methods:

Undiagnosed dense rubella cataract in a 4 year old child with esotropia.Incidentally picked in a SSP. This video demonstrates performing the most difficult anterior capsulorhexis,nucleus management,Primary posterior capsulorhexis in one eye, posterior capsulotomy and ants vitrectomy in the other eye. Very successfully done surgical video demonstration.

Results:

Skillful management of capsulorhexis,nuclear,primary posterior capsulorhexis and intra ocular lens implantation is what contributes to good visual outcome in a child.

Conclusions:

Early surgical intervention in a case of congenital rubella cataract is very important
