Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate balanced salt solution volume, energy and phacoemulsification time for grid pattern lens fragmentation during femtolaser-assisted cataract surgery (flacs) without energy used in brazil.

Setting:

Tranjan Centro Oftalmologico Sao Paulo Brazil

Methods:

: Randomized prospective study of 104 eyes (69 patients) that underwent cataract surgery divided in two groups: - Group I (n=52), FLACS without energy - USFREE surgery with grid pattern lens fragmentation and lens aspiration without ultrasonic emulsification; - Group II (n=52), TRADITIONAL PHACO surgery. BSS volume, emulsification time, energy (CDE) and endothelial cell count were compared in both groups.

Results:

GROUP 1 - USFREE The mean age was 65,99 (48 - 77). The mean aspiration time recorded was 169,29 seconds (118 - 304) US - CDE were zero in all cases. The mean fluid usage was 55,67ml (43 - 85. GROUP 2 - TRADITIONAL PHACO The mean age was 64,18 (44 - 79). The mean aspiration time recorded was 180,50 (120 - 254) The mean CDE used were 1,30 (0,0 - 2,67). The mean fluid usage was 60,7ml (46 - 85). Best corrected visual acuity in the first day after surgery were better in the us free group, difference statistical significant. Pachimetry has no difference in bth groups.

Conclusions:

Ultrasound free FLACS showed lower surgical time and preserved endothelial cell loss in this study.
