Abstract Details
Purpose:
To report the visual acuity (VA) and quality of vision outcomes after implantation of an asymmetric multifocal intraocular lens (MIOL) in post-myopic LASIK patients.
Setting:
Cathedral Eye Clinic, Northern Ireland, Belfast. UK
Methods:
A retrospective analysis (6-months) of 46 eyes was performed at a single centre. All patient had a history of prior myopic LASIK and had implantation of bilateral asymmetric MIOL (SBL-3, Lenstec). Postoperative examinations included binocular unaided distance (UDVA), corrected distance (CDVA), unaided near (UNVA), unaided intermediate (UIVA) and subjective quality of vision (QOV) score (0-10).
Results:
The mean spherical equivalent changed from .69 dioptres (D) Â± 2.95 preoperatively to 0.15DÂ±0.45 at 6-months. The mean UDVA, CDVA, UNVA and UIVA at 6-months post-op were: -0.06Â±0.12, -0.10Â±0.08, 0.09Â±0.21 and 0.24Â±0.10 respectively. The QOV score for day and night also improved statistically from 7.6Â±2.5 (pre-op) to 8.7Â±1.2 (p<0.05) (6-months post-op) and 6.2Â±1.9 to 7.2Â±1.5 (p<0.05) (6-months postop) respectively.
Conclusions:
Implantation of asymmetric MIOL after myopic LASIK was safe and achieved good visual performance.
