Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the clinical outcomes after implantation of an extended range of vision intraocular lenses(IOLs) , the Tecnis Symphony and trifocal IOls, AT LISA tri 839MP

Setting:

Clinic of Ophthalmology Pomeranian Medical University ,Szczecin

Methods:

The study comprised of 40 patients (80 eyes). In group one, 20 patients had bilateral implantation of the Tecnis Symphony lenses and in group two, 20 patients had bilateral implantation of the AT LISA tri 839MP lenses. The target refraction in both groups was emmetropia. One year after surgery , binocular visual acuity(VA), spectacle independence, contrast sensitivity(CS) , patients satisfaction, and photic phenomena were analyzed

Results:

One year after uneventful cataract surgery mean of binocular uncorrected distance VA (4 m)was very good and equal -0.10 logMAR in both groups. Mean of binocular uncorrected near VA (40 cm) was better for trifocal IOLs (0.01 versus 0.20 logMAR). The intermediate vision (80 cm) was excellent in both groups (0.09-0.15 logMAR). Only in group 2 all patients were spectacle independent . Distance and near CS was within normal age-matched limits in all patients . Mean of overall patient satisfaction was very high, more than 9.0 (0-10). Low level of halo/glare perception was reported equally in both groups (15%)

Conclusions:

Very good distance and intermediate visual outcomes were achieved in both IOLs. The patients with AT Lisa tri IOLs presented better near visual acuity and total spectacle independence. The 2 IOLs gave very high patient satisfaction and low level of photic phenomena
