Influence of corneal spherical aberration, anterior chamber depth and ocular axial length on visual outcome with EDOF IOL

Abstract Details
Purpose:
To identify which factors influence the final visual acuity and patient satisfaction with a multifocal Wavefront-Designed intraocular lens (IOL) in a high volume of patients.
Setting:
San Rossore Treatment Center. Pisa(Italy)
Methods:
Retrospective data of patients with Miniwell - Sifi IOL were analyzed. The main outcome measures were uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA), corrected distance visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, incidence of photic phenomena and patient satisfaction. We focused on 3 preoperative parameters (corneal spherical aberration, ocular axial length, anterior chamber depth) to understand if they could influence the visual outcomes.
Results:
In our study the use of Multifocal Wavefront designed IOLs has shown excellent visual outcomes with minimal disturbances. Uncorrected distance vision acuity was 20/32 or better in 100% eyes. At the last follow-up, 87.5% patients were spectacle-independent for near, intermediate, and distance vision. Halos were essentially absent in this patient and glare occurred at a very low level.
Conclusions:
The diffractive multifocal Wavefront-Designed IOLs lens provided good distance and near visual acuity. Patient satisfaction was high.
