Abstract Details
Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to compare the visual outcomes of Panoptix trifocal intraocular lenses (IOL) and the multifocal ReSTOR .0 D IOLs.
Setting:
Bayindir Hospital, Ankara, TURKEY
Methods:
This prospective, non-randomized comparative study included 50 eyes in 38 patients underwent cataract surgery and multifocal intraocular lens implants. 30 eyes received multifocal Restor.0 D IOL, 20 eyes received Panoptix IOL. Ophthalmological evaluation included the measurement of uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), distance-corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA), and distance-corrected intermediate visual acuity (DCIVA).
Results:
Postoperative UDVA was 0.05 and 0.04 logMAR in the multifocal Restor .0 D IOL and Panoptix trifocal IOL groups, respectively (p=0.825); postoperative CDVA was 0.01 and 0.02 logMAR, respectively (p=0.66); DCIVA was 0.19 and 0.52 logMAR, respectively (p=0.000); and DCNVA was 0.05 and 0.09 logMAR, respectively (p=0.001). In both groups, there was an improvement in the spherical equivalent and UDVA (p<0.05). The Panoptix lenses exhibited better behavior for intermediate vision, according to the defocus curve and a shorter reading distance than the ReSTOR group.
Conclusions:
Good visual quality for long and short distances provided by both lenses. Panoptix exhibited a better intermediate vision.
