Abstract Details
Purpose:
To establish the smoothness and safety of single-handed IOL implantation through a 1.6 mm square limbal incision with a new micro gear screw injector.
Setting:
Single surgeon performed surgery with Phacosystem Visalis 500 Zeiss at MV Sante Vision Champel, Geneva, Switzerland. IOL Zeiss CT Asphina 509 MP were implanted.
Methods:
A prospective consecutive serie of 20 patients undergoing cataract surgery during winter and spring 2017. A film recorded with Zeiss Callisto eye 3.5 will show the ease of use of this screw IOL injector. The Ergoject TM Medicel injection system comes with integrated cartridges of different sizes for incisions ranging from 1.6 to 3.0 mm.
Results:
No complications were observed during the IOL injection. Only minimal (0.2 mm) limbal stretching was measured after the phacoemulsification without any further increase of the incision size after the IOL implantation.
Conclusions:
The 1.6 mm micro limbal incision allows a safe capsulorhexis and phacoemulsification. The new Ergoject TM provides a single handed smooth and controlled injection of CT the Asphina IOL without any enlargement of the incision.
