Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate clinical outcomes after the implantation of a diffractive trifocal intraocular
lens (IOL).
Setting:
University Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand
Methods:
The trifocal diffractive IOL (FineVision, POD F or POD FT) was implanted in eyes with bilateral cataract with and without astigmatism. Monocular and binocular visual performance in photopic condition, questionnaire, contrast sensitivity and optical aberration were assessed at 1 month, 3 and 6 months postoperatively.
Results:
The IOL was implanted in 60 eyes (30 patients). The outcome was assessed at 6 months. The mean monocular / binocular distance uncorrected VA improved from 0.28 0.20 to 0.09 0.12 log MAR and 0.18 0.16 to 0.06 0.08 log MAR. The mean monocular / binocular intermediate VA improved from 0.44 0.30 to 0.05 0.05 log MAR and 0.25 0.23 to -0.01 0.02 log MAR. The near VA improved to J1 in 82% and 97% in monocular / binocular tests respectively. The mean total and internal higher order aberrations decreased.
Conclusions:
Trifocal diffractive IOL gave excellent distance, intermediate and near visual acuity. It caused decrease in HOA with 90 percent of patient satisfaction.
