Repeatability and agreement in biometry between two new optical biometers

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess the repeatability and agreement of biometric parameters obtained with two new biometers and to compare the predictability between two devices.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Inha University Hospital

Methods:

Biometry was performed with two biometer: IOLMaster 700 and Galilei G6. Three measurements per eye were obtained for each device and the repeatability was evaluated. The axial length (AL), anterior chamber depth (ACD), corneal keratometry (K), white to white (WTW), central corneal thickness (CCT), and lens thickness (LT) were measured and the postoperative predictability were compared.

Results:

The measurements could not be obtained with the Galilei G6 in 6.5% eyes, whereas the IOLMaster 700 had 0.9% eyes dropout. Both devices showed good repeatability and the IOLMaster 700 (for AL; CoV 0.021%, ICC 1.000) was higher repeatable than the Galilei G6 (for AL; CoV 0.147%, ICC 0.999). When comparing the biometric parameters, there were no statistical differences of AL, ACD, steepest K, WTW, and LT (P > 0.050) except flattest K, mean K, and CCT. The mean absolute predicted error were 0.31 �Â�± 0.29 D and 0.31 �Â�± 0.28 D with the SRK/T formula (P = 0.825).

Conclusions:

Two new optical biometers showed higher repeatability and relatively good agreements. The IOLMaster 700 demonstrated slightly better repeatability and penetration, indicating that the new device can be used for IOL power calculations for cataract surgery.
