Purpose:
Prospective study to evaluate the frequency of exfoliation syndrome (XFS) in Greek patients scheduled for cataract surgery.
Setting:
A�� Ophthalmology Department, University of Athens
Methods:
This prospective study comprised 126 patients who had cataract surgery during the period 10/2014-1/2016. This study also included age, sex and intraocular pressure (IOP).
Results:
Mean age of the total study population was 72.5 years (range 52-86). XFS was present in 31 patients out of 126 patients (24.6%). Mean IOP was higher in the XFS group.
Conclusions:
XFS is wide common in Greek patients scheduled for cataract surgery. Diagnosis of XFS in cataract is vital in order to avoid difficult surgical complications.
