Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate effectiveness and safety of accelerated corneal cross-linking in pediatric patients with keratoconus

Setting:

VIKOM – 1st Eye Center in Žilina, Žilina, Slovak Republic

Methods:

A retrospective evaluation of pediatric patients with keratoconus treated with accelerated corneal cross-linking during the period of 2013 – 2016 at our eye center. Monitored parameters have been processed using descriptive statistics.

Results:

The study group consists of 9 eyes (7 boys). The mean age of the group is 15.3 years. The mean follow-up period is 20.57 months ± 8.38 months. Within the group, changes in patients have occurred in UCVA (from 0.40 ± 0.27 to 0.57 ± 0.23) BCVA (from 0.61 ± 0.23 to 0.85 ± 0.15), K max (from 54.27D ± 3.67 to 52.71D ± 4.51), corneal astigmatism (from 4.52D of ± 1.92 to 4.2D ± 1.61), corneal thickness (from 460um ± 47.33 to 440.78um ± 56.77) and endothelial cells (from 2890.78 ± 271.78 to 2920.22 ± 246.79).

Conclusions:

Our results show excellent safety and effectiveness of accelerated cross-linking in pediatric patients with keratoconus
