Purpose:
To report 4 cases of hydrops treated by compressive intra-stromal sutures
Setting:
Fondation Ophtalmologique Adolphe de Rothschild, Paris, France
Methods:
Retrospective, interventional study.
Following epithelial removal, an air bubble was injected in the anterior chamber in order to better visualise the descemet tear. Several 10-0 nylon sutures were placed perpendicular to the tear. Visual acuity, slit lamp exam and anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) were performed pre-operatively, 1 week and 1 month post-operatively.
Results:
On average, 4.75 sutures were used. All 4 patients felt less pain and had better vision
after one week. Central corneal thickness diminished rapidly from the first day until one month post-operatively.
Conclusions:
Intra-stromal compressive sutures represent a simple and effective method of managing acute hydrops.
