Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate Interchangeability Analysis between Haigis-L formula and the ray-tracing internal software of a Scheimpflug camera combined with a Placido disc corneal topographer to calculate the intraocular lens power after myopic and hyperopic lasik surgery.

Setting:

Vissum Corporation and Miguel Hernández University, Alicante, Spain

Methods:

56 eyes were included in this study divided in two groups, 29 eyes after myopic lasik and 27 eyes after hyperopic lasik candidates to cataract surgery. The IOL power was calculated with the Haigis-L formula and with the ray-tracing internal software of a Scheimpflug camera combined with a Placido disc corneal topographer, Sirius (CSO). Analysis of agreement and interchangeability was performed by the Bland and Altman method in each group. The Pearson coefficient correlation was calculated for each group.

Results:

Mean IOL power calculated in hyperopic group was 22.65±3.56 and 22.74±4.18D with Haigis-L and ray-tracing, respectively. The Mean IOL power calculated in myopic eyes was 17.67±4.57 and 16.89±4.78D Haigis-L and ray-tracing, respectively. The Pearson coefficient correlation between both methods was significantly in both groups (hyperopic r=0.948, p<0.01; myopic r=0.968, p<0.01). The analysis of interchangeability showed a less mean differences in hyperopic group (0.09±1.38D) than myopic group (-0.77±1.19D).

Conclusions:

The Interchangeability between Haigis-L formula and the ray-tracing internal software from Sirius provide better equivalency between methods in IOL power calculation after hyperopic lasik than in myopic lasik
