Abstract Details

Purpose:

Evaluation of patients’ satisfaction with the result of cataract surgery - the quality of vision and quality of life achieved after simultaneous implantation of monofocal and multifocal intraocular implants. Determination of postoperative spectacle dependence for distance and near vision.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology of Medical University of Warsaw

Methods:

51 patients (96 eyes) who underwent cataract surgery at Department of Ophthalmology of Medical University of Warsaw were enrolled in the study. The following parameters were evaluated: best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and non-corrected visual acuity (NCVA) before and after cataract surgery for distant and near vision; postoperative spectacle dependence and evaluation of subjective quality of life (modified questionnaire VF-14, questionnaire of subjective visual satisfaction).

Results:

Postoperative monocular BCVA of examined patients for distant vision was about 0,93 and postoperative NCVA was about 0,84. Binocular NCVA for distant vision was about 0,97. Monocular NCVA for near vision was 0,5 as well as binocular in whole group. Postoperative spectacle independence was observed at 96 % of patients. Postoperative satisfaction of reached visual quality was described as very good by 91% of patients.

Conclusions:

Cataract surgery with implantation of the new multifocal intraocular lens (IOL), REVERSO, as an additional (piggy back) implant, simultaneously with monofocal IOL implantation into the capsular bag is an effective surgical procedure, which allows patients to become independent of spectacle correction after cataract surgery, achieving a very good visual acuity.
