Abstract Details

Purpose:

To determine visual performance corrected and not corrected for far, intermediate, near distance and evaluation of parameters that can indicate the EDOF (enlarged depth of focus) capabilities of Intraocular lens (IOL) Acriva Reviol Tri ED study.

Setting:

IOA Madrid Innova Ocular, Madrid, Spain. Study perform from May 2016 to February 2017.

Methods:

Pilot prospective phase IV clinical study, patients both sex, from 50 to 80 years old, without ocular pathology other than cataract were included. Patients were implanted with AcrivaUD Reviol Tri-ED diffractive intraocular lens both eyes. Primary outcome was Visual Acuity (VA) monocular/binocular (corrected/non-corrected) distance, intermediate and near (LogMAR). Secondary outcomes were Optic Biomicroscopy; IOP; Defocus curve monocular/binocular with EDTRS chart at 4 m VA were recorded at different distances simulated with -5.00D to +3.00D lenses; Contrast Sensitivity CSV 1000-E contrast sensitivity chart at 2.5 m, 80-Lux and Patient subjective questionnaire were performed. Controls were performed 1-day, 1-week, 1-3 months postsurgery.

Results:

Thirty eyes of fifteen patients were implanted showing binocular 3-months UBDVA 0.00, UBIVA 0.22, UBNVA 0.26 this correlated directly with the subjective questionnaire at 3-months. From the questionnaire answers we can explain the EDOF capabilities of this lens: good ability to go from far vision to near vision (4.21 over 5), high satisfaction with their vision in the daily life (4.57/5), high satisfaction when going from brightly lit area to dimly lit area (4.42/5), the overall satisfaction of patients were high (4.57/5). The defocus curve binocular 3-months also shows a good and progressive vision from far to near vision.

Conclusions:

The use of the EDOF IOL Acriva Reviol Tri-ED is a good option for patients in the replacement of natural crystalline lens in presbyopic patients with or without cataract. A good visual performance in daily life conditions and progression in all distances was seen and correlates with VA results in this three months study follow up.
