Abstract Details
Purpose:
The purpose of the study is to study the state of the general and local immune status in persons with different levels of secretion of tear fluid.
Setting:
Kazakh Eye Research Institute, Almaty city, Kazakhstan
St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University, Russia
Methods:
To study the status of the immunological status, immunoglobulins in the serum and tear fluid were studied in 110 people aged 18 to 63 years. The subjects were divided into 2 groups: the first group - 52 people without disturbing the secretion of tear fluid; the second group - 58 people with dry eye syndrome.
A lacrimal test fluid was obtained from the lower conjunctival arch of the eye by completely wetting standard strips of filter paper. Determination of the concentration of immunoglobulins (IgA, IgM and IgG) and secretory IgA in blood serum and lacrimal fluid was performed by ELISA.
Results:
There was an increase in all classes of immunoglobulins in patients with impaired secretion of tear fluid, with a more significant Ig G - by 42%, and IgA and IgM by 19% and 15%, respectively. Secretory immunoglobulin A in the blood serum was determined in a small amount, its mean value was 2.9 + 0.7 mg / l, which was significantly lower than in the lacrimal fluid. This indicates the local production of secretory immunoglobulin A, and not about its intake from blood serum.
Conclusions:
The general (humoral) immunity does not change significantly in the examined persons with a violation of the secretion of tear fluid.
The surveyed individuals with dry eye syndrome noted an increase in the level of all immunoglobulins (IgA, IgM, IgG) studied in tear fluid, which indicates a violation of local immunity.
