Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate postoperative complications of accelerated corneal collagen crosslinking (A-CXL) in progressive keratoconus patients

Setting:

Beyoglu Eye Training and Research Hospital

Methods:

Five hundreds twenty eyes of 344 patients who performed A-CXL datas reviewed retrospectively (5 minutes of UV-A irradiance at 18 mW/cm2, total dose of 5.4 J/cm2). Postoperative complications (such as corneal haze, delayed epithelial healing, peripheral sterile infiltrates, progression, corneal scar, loss of vision) evaluated.

Results:

Severe corneal scar observed in 3 eyes. Percentage of eyes that lost two or more Snellen lines of the CDVA at the 12-month follow-up compared with preoperatively, was 3% in the study. K apex readings increased greater than 1.0 D in 7 eyes of 4 patients.

Conclusions:

A-CXL can use in progressive keratoconus patients with low complication rates
