Abstract Details
Purpose:
Epi-ON CXL has been attempted before but typically fails after 12 or more months of follow-up. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the CXLO protocol for epi-ON CXL would provide more long-lasting results
Setting:
The setting is the Wellington Eye Clinic in Dublin, Ireland
Methods:
Epi-ON CXL was applied to 50 eyes of 44 patients demonstrating progressive keratoconus using the CXLO protocol. Vision, Refraction and Topographic data were followed for at least 6 months and up to 4 years following CXL treatment.
Results:
50 eyes of 44 patients underwent epi-ON CXL treatment after documented progression of keratoconus. The visual acuity (UDVA and CDVA), the refraction and the topographic data (including K-Mean, K-Max, BAD-D index, IHD, ISV) showed improvement over the post-operative period with results lasting until the last patient visit prior to the study closing.
Conclusions:
Epi-ON CXL, when applied according to the CXLO protocol, appears to improve vision and topographic parameters and appears to provide at least 3 years of stability post-treatment.
