Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze the nearest results and clinical efficacy of the femtosecond laser-assisted phacoemulsification of the age-related cataract complicated by the weakness of the zonular lens support. The in-depth analysis of the surgical treatment of age-related cataract in 12 eyes (9 patients) in which the femtosecond laser-assisted phacoemulsification was carried out without complications. Patients age: 55-79 years, males were 6, women – 3. Terms of dynamic observation were up to 1 year.

Setting:

The research was performed in the State Institution Eye Microsurgery Complex named after academician S.N. Fyodorov, Khabarovsk, Russia

Methods:

Stability of IOL central position was evaluated under biomicroscopy and computer topography on the Scheimpflug camera OCULUS PENTACAM HR (Germany). The IOL position was assessed in frontal and sagittal planes. In frontal IOL displacement relative to center of pupil, the clinical classification was used: I grade - to 0.7 mm, II grade - 0.7-1.0 mm, III grade - more than 1.0 mm (Fedorov S.N., Egorova E.V., 1992). IOL inclination in sagittal plane was determined relative to iris plane in degrees under PENTACAM HR image. The periodicity of examination was 1 day, 3 days, 1, 3, 6 months to 1 year.

Results:

The correct intracapsular IOL position was determined by 6 to 12 months in all 12 eyes. The visometry averaged 0.72±0.14. The degree of inclination along the frontal plane averaged 0.25±0.05 mm, along the sagittal plane - did not exceed an average of 3.5±0.2 degrees, which is quite acceptable with aspherical optics of modern IOLs.

Conclusions:

Thus, the femtosecond laser-assisted phacoemulsification in cataract surgery complicated by the weakness of zonal lens support showed high clinical efficacy, namely, absence of significant intraoperative complications, anactive early postoperative period, stability of the IOL position during the entire follow-up period up to 1 year.
