Purpose:
We report a case of retinal detachment in patient with ocular toxocariasis
Setting:
The V.P. Vykhodtsev Clinical Ophthalmic Hospital, Omsk
Methods:
The patient is 57 years old man. Visual acuity of the right eye Vis OD = 0,005, retina detached from 2 to 8 hours with the macula-off, with a nose side is 2.5 mm from the optic disc under the retina seen dark subject 2,0 x 0,1mm, fixed to the upper end of the choroid, the lower end of subject is shifting when moving eyes.
A microinvasive 25 gauge vitrectomy with retinectomy was perfomed, we used port with removable valve to removed subject (parasite) using forceps. We finished with laser coagulation and long- term silicone oil tamponade.
Results:
The postoperative visual acuity of the right eye Vis OD = 0,01 + 5,0 D = 0,02. The result of the identification of a specific accessory agents helminthisms made in FBUZ 'Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Omsk region' confirmed that the remote subject is the larva Toxocaris size of 2.0 mm.
Postoperatively, the patient three times handed over a feces on eggs of helmints, the study showed a negative result. ELISA titer of toxocariasis showed Toxocara canis antibodies 1: 200.
Conclusions:
Clinical case demonstrates atypical for ocular toxocariasis; the necessity is to consider the possible parasitic etiology and carrying out specific tests in the differential diagnosis.
