Abstract Details
Purpose:
to describes clinical results of monofocal toric IOL implantation in cataractous eyes with keratoconus
Setting:
Ein-Tal Eye Center, Tel Aviv, Israel
Methods:
Patients with clinically significant cataract, keartoconus pattern, stable astigmatism and no other ocular disease were implanted with toric IOLs. Pre- and post-operative evaluation included refraction, biometry corneal topography and tomography.
Results:
Twenty-four eyes of 17 patients, mean age 60.5 years, were implanted with a variety of toric lenses (5 models of 3 companies). Uncorrected visual acuity improved from 1.26 (LogMAR) to 0.21 and 83.3% achieved 6/12 vision or better. Refractive astigmatism was improved from a mean preoperative of 3.13 diopters to 0.93 diopter postoperatively. Corneal astigmatism remained unchanged.
Conclusions:
Toric IOLs may significantly reduce residual astigmatism and improve uncorrected visual acuity in selected keratoconus patients
