Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the postoperative functional results and patient satisfaction after implantation of a novel enhanced depth of focus trifocal IOL in the distance dominant eye and a trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) in the near dominat eye.
Setting:
International Vision Correction Research Centre Network (IVCRC.net), Dept. of Ophthalmology, Univ. of Heidelberg
Eyeclinics Ahaus-Raesfeld-Rheine, Gerl & Kretz and Collegues, Germany
Breyer-Kaymak-Klabe Eyesurgeons, Duesseldorf, Germany
Methods:
Mean preoperative spherical equivalent was significantly reduced one month after surgery.
Postoperative binocular yisual acuity for distance, intermediate and near has significantly increased compared to preoperative with very good values from distance to near.
Binocular defocus curve analysis show less drawdown in the intermediate range compared to binocular trifocal IOL implantation.
Results:
Mean preoperative spherical equivalent was significantly reduced one month after surgery.
Postoperative binocular yisual acuity for in distance, intermediate and near is as significantly increased compared to preoperative with very good values from distance to near.
Binocular defocus curve analysis show less drawdown in the intermediate range compared to binocular trifocal IOL implantation.
Conclusions:
The Mix & Match approach with a EDOF trifocal IOL in the distance dominant eye and a trifocal IOL in the near dominant eye seems to get better results for intermediate visual acuity while offering patients a higher degree of spectacle independency.
