Abstract Details
Purpose:
To identify the magnitude of tolerance to residual refractive errors in patients contralaterally implanted with the small-aperture IC-8 intraocular lens (IOL) in one eye and an aspheric monofocal IOL in the fellow eye.
Setting:
Prospective, open label, post-approval, non-randomized, multi-center clinical study on 105 subjects up to 6 months.
Methods:
Uncorrected visual acuities, satisfaction and visual symptoms were assessed in a sub-group of 80 subjects with manifest refractive spherical equivalent (MRSE) within ± 0.50 D in the monofocal eye and between -1.50 D to +0.50 D in the IC-8 eye. The mean uncorrected distance (UCDVA) and near (UCNVA) visual acuities, satisfaction (5- very satisfied) and symptoms (5- very severe) are reported in logMAR.
Results:
For IC-8 eyes with MRSE between -0.25 D to -1.50 D, the UCDVA and UCNVA varied between 0.06 to 0.10 and 0.04 to 0.20 logMAR, respectively. For IC-8 eyes with MRSE between -1.50 D to +0.25 D, the binocular UCDVA and UCNVA varied between -0.10 to 0.04 and 0.04 to 0.18 logMAR, respectively. Overall satisfaction, glare and halos ratings varied between 4.0 to 4.5, 0.0 to 2.2 and 0.6 to 1.5, respectively. There were no statistically significant differences in acuities, satisfaction and symptoms.
Conclusions:
IC-8 subjects with contralateral implantation maintained excellent binocular acuities, high satisfaction and low symptoms despite variation in post-op MRSE as large as 1.75 D in the IC-8 eye.
