Abstract Details
Purpose:
Evaluation of patient satisfaction, visual symptoms and contrast sensitivity in a prospective clinical trial. The IOL is designed to achieve the best uncorrected distance and intermediate visual acuity, minimizing visual disturbances like glare, halos or starbusts and to enable good night driving ability. To read small letters, a minor reading correction is recommended
Setting:
nordBLICK Augenklinik Bellevue
Methods:
66 cataractous eyes of 33 consecutive patients (12m, 21f) with a mean age of 69±8 years were included into the study. Contrast visual acuity was examined using the FACT (Ginsburg box). The occurrence of visual symptoms and patient satisfaction was evaluated with a semi-quantitative questionnaire.
Results:
Under mesopic conditions, the subjective score (0=no symptoms, 100=severe symptoms) was 23.4±27.8 for glare, 20.8±28.3 for halos, and 18.6±25.5 for starbursts. For blurred distance resp. intermediate vision, it was 11.6±19.7 resp. 21.6±29.9, for doubling effects 8.8±19. UDVA (logMAR) improved from 0.49±0.32 to 0.03±0.12. CDVA changed from von 0.23±0.23 to -0.04±0.08. UIVA improved from 0.64±0.26 to 0.17±0.21, and UNVA from 0.68±0.3 to 0.31±0.19. More than 90% of the patients reached binocular UDVA of 20/25 or higher and almost 80% binocular UIVA of 20/25.
Conclusions:
Good contrast sensitivity and minor photopic visual symptoms as well as good UDVA and UIVA leads to high patient satisfaction after implantation of the Lentis Comfort IOL. The clinical results are promising in terms of everyday life without glasses. For patients without high demands for uncorrected reading visual acuity or high demands for mesopic conditions, this IOL seems to be very useful.
