Abstract Details
Purpose:
To create awareness about the role Arunodaya , an NGO,working in the field of curable blindness, in India , is doing in restoring sight for over 1.2 million poor and needy patients, till date.
Setting:
INDIA : 33 rural villages, urban slums and ADEH, our tertiary eye care hospital in Gurgaon ( Haryana), India.
Methods:
A detailed presentationon ACT's aims, objects, methodology and results will be compiled and presented.
Results:
ACT has been able to treat over 1.2 million patients, undertake > 35,000 sight restoring surgeries, dispensed over 70,000 pairs of spectacles, etc.
Conclusions:
Arunodaya started by examinig its first needy patient, under the shade of a banyan tree in 1990.
It has since then grown to make over 33 villges eye care free, and treats over 4,000 patients every month, in its facility.
NGO's interested in scaling up, in their outreach can pick up tips, from ACT's poster presentation.
