Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate postoperative distance best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) after LASIK treatment for myopia using the WaveLight Refractive Suite.
Setting:
Prospective, post-market, and open label clinical trial at 4 sites, 2 sites each in US and Europe.
1. Durrie Vision, Overland Park KS, USA
2. Gordon-Weiss-Schanzlin Vision Institute, San Diego CA, USA
3. Wellington Eye Clinic, Dublin, Ireland
4. Sehkraft Augenzentrum Maus, Cologne, Germany
Methods:
Myopic subjects 18 years of age or older underwent LASIK treatment with the WaveLight Refractive Suite. Subjects completed visits preoperatively and at 1 day, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively. Monocular manifest refraction and BCVA was measured with an ETDRS chart at 4 meters.
Results:
Ninety-seven subjects underwent LASIK treatment and 96 subjects were included in the full analysis set. The mean manifest refraction spherical equivalent at baseline was -3.67 D ±1.98 D. Compared to baseline, a gain of 1 or more line in distance BCVA was demonstrated in 52% of eyes at 1 month, 57% of eyes at the 3 months, and 60% of eyes at 6 months. No eyes lost two or more lines in BCVA at any postoperative visit.
Conclusions:
The majority of the subjects’ eyes had a 1 line gain of distance BCVA at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively compared to baseline. The percentage of eyes with a gain of one or more line increased between consecutive postoperative visits.
